Call for Class-Action Against Legacy Media

Nothing irritates me more than irresponsible journalism, which probably describes the lion share of what we have been bombarded with all year. And nothing has been truer than the news about hydroxychloroquine.
Simply put, hydroxychloroquine was originally and still is considered a drug to reduce the possibility of complications if exposed to the COVID-19 virus. It doesn’t kill the virus. It simply reduces the body’s inflammatory immune response, which provides the breeding ground for what really kills COVID-19 patients: pneumonia. Taking the drug early enough can keep inflammation at bay if one does become infected is where it effective and is why Trump is taking it.
As with any medication, there are medical conditions where it isn’t safe for the patient to take the drug. We already know all of that for hydroxychloroquine – have for decades. The truth is physicians know when and when not to prescribe the drug. The drug has been around so long that they probably studied it in medical school and it’s likely been well described in their handy drug bible their entire career.
In case you’re still thinking it isn’t safe, consider the following.
I take a medication that requires a periodic blood test to make sure I don’t have a condition where the drug I take can be harmful. It is a maintenance drug, meaning I take it for life. I have a family member that has to stop taking it because they developed that condition where it isn't safe to take it. A drug’s safety profile lists the conditions and drug interactions that aren’t safe for administering it. It is impossible to know how any drug will interact with every person and every mix of medical conditions. We don’t even know all the possible medical conditions a person can have.
But hydroxychloroquine has been used as an inflammatory drug for decades for autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, and its safety profile is well-known. In fact, it is so well-known that the only thing we probably don’t know with scientific certainty is if it can reduce inflammation enough in a COVID-19 patient to be effective, and at what stage in the illness it is no longer effective.
Why anyone but medical professionals would even consider evaluating this drug is beyond me. The politicians (including Trump) and the media have no business promoting it or demoting it. But because of politics, they have, and where it could have saved lives, it wasn’t even used - in at least one case, simply because the governor (Cuomo) hates Trump.
One study I shared before that simply compared statistics revealing hydroxychloroquine had no impact on mortality (which says it is safe but also ineffective). Recently, I studied that article more and what the news didn’t tell you, is that the patients who took it were quite seriously ill. Reducing inflammation too late in the game won’t have an impact if they already have pneumonia.
The common thing to do is to give patients antibiotics early in the hope it will prevent pneumonia. That’s what they did for my COVID-19 diagnosed 85-year-old stepdad, and he recovered. If he had taken hydroxychloroquine as well, he’d probably have been more comfortable and less sick. And if the antibiotics wouldn't have been enough, it's possible also receiving hydroxychloroquine would have. However, at some point in the course of the disease, it is too late to use the drug.
So what we’ve seen should give you a glimpse as to what to expect of government-controlled healthcare. Just look at what Gov. Cuomo did in New York. The top of the list is him issuing an executive order banning the use of hydroxychloroquine. Given early enough especially in nursing homes – where he sent COVID-19 patients to – thousands could have been saved. Such was just one of the obvious abuses of power – this one because of his hatred for Trump. So I guess it's true that Trump is indirectly killing thousands of people because of the decisions borne in hatred of Trump.
He replaced the FDA and took away patients' rights to have their provider treat them as the patient and provider saw fit. Such was unfortunate for hundreds and maybe thousands of patients whose primary care provider could have made the call to use the drug – where it reduced the inflammatory response enough that the antibiotics can kill infection while the body fights the virus – without drowning from pneumonia.
Because of Gov. Cuomo politics, he might as well have just signed execution orders for thousands of patients who died. And you hate Trump?
