The Trump Virus

We’ve recently heard Nancy Pelosi call the novel coronavirus the Trump Virus. What we’ve seen the Democrats say and do this year is way beyond unconscionable. And now to start a catchphrase like that – the whole behavior on the left is just disgusting.

A second virus in the same family is again coming out of the same city (Wuhan) in China (brand new in 2003) with that country’s only level 4 bio lab that we helped fund including funding sent in 2014 (Obama years) to study bat viruses (the genetics of this coronavirus was confirmed to come from those in bats). If we attribute anyone or anywhere to the virus, it would be China or Wuhan China.

Moreover, but secondary to this discussion is, why did these two viruses from the same place coincidentally appear just before a presidential election of a Republican incumbent? The first one, SARS (SARS-CoV) appeared late 2003 before the 2004 Presidential election with G. W. Bush as the incumbent POTUS. Now it’s Trump as the incumbent (SARS-CoV2). Gibbs’ rule # 39?

Okay, put that aside for later. Let’s address the well-timed “Trump Virus” accusation, which came after a new scene for the false narrative entered the political stage: Trump didn’t follow Obama’s pandemic playbook. How do they know? No one would ever know it wasn’t followed who was not on that task force. The task force has all the experts from all the agencies just like the playbook suggested.

Trump was bashed for acting early in suspending travel from China (1/31/2020), and when it hit the EU and then the UK he suspended travel there. Those actions are in the playbook. Yes, I read it. I posted it below.

In the military, we had such things too. There is one the Air Force published, which is ORM – Operational Risk Management. It has a bunch of unrealistic concepts and out-of-touch implements that eventually caused the Air Force to pretty much abandon it. This playbook makes the ORM playbook look like a children’s coloring book. Obama’s playbook doesn’t have in it what we are led to believe it does.

The playbook provides all the questions they could think of, agencies, decision rubrics, communications dashboard suggestions, etc. It was so horribly written, overly complex, and like ORM particularly useless other than for an advisory tool. They implemented the playbook's suggestions as the multiagency experts saw fit – many of them experts from Obama years so had knowledge of the playbook.

So, yes, Trump followed the playbook starting on 1/29/2020 when he initiated the task force. In fact, the task force curiously resembles suggestions in the playbook.

So, saying he didn’t is just a damn lie.

He also started stockpiling medical supplies and equipment and also Hydroxychloroquine, which was part of Obama’s pandemic playbook (not specifically). He could have taken control of all the states testing and so forth, but the playbook said the states have that power and responsibility. Many of them created their own tests. Remember, this coronavirus was novel - a total unknown and no one had accurate testing available yet. The truth is you can lump all the positive tests in the same bucket because different tests were used and used in differing frequency throughout the pandemic.

Now regarding the virus spreading more in blue states because Trump didn’t help them, is absolutely fabricated. He left it up to the states to take action. In fact, the playbook points out that the states have “significant power and responsibility” and so Trump followed that. Now they blame him because they couldn’t get their shit together, allowing half a million “protesters” gather in their downtowns, and criminals to be released – all spreading the virus.

It is not the Trump virus. It is the Wuhan virus. Trump acted immediately and followed the playbook (evidenced by what he did that the playbook suggested). Saying it is the Trump virus is a lie and just more partisanship that uses you and me as political footballs.
